Directed by Ricky Staub, the film is a coming-of-age story based on the novel Ghetto Cowboy by G. Neri. It follows 15-year-old Cole (), a rebellious teen from Detroit who is sent by his mother to live with his estranged father, Harp ( Idris Elba ), in North Philadelphia.
Many of the supporting characters are played by actual members of the Fletcher Street Urban Riding Club, giving the film a grounded, documentary-like feel.
