The version of him on the screen looked fresher, less tired, and held a look of profound pity. The "Update" wasn't for his computer. It was a patch for the world outside the screen, and as the bar hit 100%, the physical Elias felt himself beginning to pixelate, his edges blurring into the gray static of an old, discarded file.
