Moneron is a remote, uninhabited island located in the Strait of Tartary, approximately 56 kilometers from Sakhalin Island in Russia. Once home to a population of 2,000 under Japanese control, it became completely uninhabited by the 1970s and was designated as Russia's first marine nature park.
