The air in Tokyo was too loud, too electric. For Izumiko Suzuhara, it felt like a physical weight pressing against her skin. Raised in the secluded Tamakura Shrine, she was used to the silence of the Kumano mountains, not the buzzing neon and static of the city that she invariably destroyed whenever her emotions spiked.

Miyuki stopped and turned. As a Yamabushi , his duty was to protect the yorishiro —the vessel for the Himegami goddess. But to Izumiko, he was just the childhood friend who was forced to be her guardian, a role he clearly resented.

She stepped past Miyuki. Her hand, trembling but certain, reached out toward the creature. As her fingers brushed the ink-like mass, a pulse of pure, grounding energy rippled outward. The spirit didn't burn; it simply dissolved, its essence returning to the natural world.

The station fell silent. The emergency lights flickered on, casting long shadows.

"Yeah," he replied, actually looking at her for the first time that day. "Maybe the city isn't so bad after all." Series Background
