Released in 2005, is a war drama directed by John Dahl that chronicles the daring rescue of over 500 American prisoners of war (POWs) from the Cabanatuan camp in the Philippines during World War II. Historical Background

The film is based on the real-life Raid at Cabanatuan that took place on January 30, 1945. The prisoners were survivors of the notorious 1942 Bataan Death March, who had spent three years in brutal captivity. As Allied forces under General Douglas MacArthur advanced toward Luzon, the Japanese high command issued a "Kill All" policy to liquidate POWs before they could be liberated.
