Two years later, Tom has been demoted to the River Rescue unit. A new series of murders begins, and the victims are all women Tom has previously dated.
The story refers to the 1993 American action thriller Striking Distance (released in Poland as or sometimes informally referred to by its literal translation, "Uderzenie" in some circles).
During a high-speed chase of the suspected strangler, Tom's father, Vince, is shot and killed. The suspect, Jimmy, supposedly commits suicide by jumping off a bridge, though his body is never found.
