Merlin eventually discovers the plot and follows Morgana to a secret meeting with Morgause. He is captured by Morgause, who chains him in the woods to be eaten by giant scorpions called Serkets.
To weaken Camelot for an invasion, Morgana uses a magical mandrake root—enchanted by Morgause using Uther's own tears—and hides it under the King's bed.
